Mark Normand Hits the Comedy Grand Slam

October 14, 2018

Mark Normand has hit the late night TV grand slam! Conan (6xs), The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2xs), The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Late Late Show with James Corden.

To my knowledge (I tweeted him to confirm and received a favorite) he is the only comic the climb this comedy mountain. Getting on any late night TV show is a daunting task, but his ability to knock out four is a testament to not only his skills but also work ethic.

Mark, an LSU drop-out, started comedy in New Orleans and has since grown into being a staple of the New York comedy scene. He actually holds the scene’s record for most sets in a single year hitting up to six shows per night. For the record, I did ask the total in our interview together but he didn’t remember. Either way it’s an encouraging note that his success has not happened by accident.

Mark’s career has been on the fast track since he started opening for Amy Schumer only two years into comedy. However, the major takeaway is that the work comes first. His impressive resume is only possible after years of balancing open mic sets in between shifts working as a janitor. The comedy grind is hard but worth it.
