Our Top Three Comedy Podcasts (after Hot Breath!)

January 1, 2019

It’s rare to find a comedy podcast that shares our same level of comedy curiosity. These three listed below keep us inspired and educated on our favorite topic, comedy! We love learning. So if you have any other podcast recommendations, please connect with us or comment with your suggestions below.

1. School of Laughs with Rik Roberts

This podcast is hosted by veteran comedian and Nashville native Rik Roberts. He calls this show “your “digital green room” and we could not agree more. Not only does Rik have great interviews but also insightful episodes tailored to specific topics comics need to know like: goal setting tips, live joke writing workshops, and business insights he’s learned from 30+years in the business.

As of August 1, 2017 the podcasts release on the 1st and 15th of the month. We’ve even been on each other’s podcasts and will shares those links below. This is the perfect podcast for any comic wanting to learn how the comedy business works, how to get the work, and how to be funny enough to get better work.

2. Let's Talk About Sets

We discovered this bi-weekly podcast by recommendation from Atlanta comic Franc Gwin. This podcast is hosted by two New York comics, Jeff McBride and Harrison Tweed, out on the comedy grind with a mission to share this “punchy podcast from NYC on the science and craft of stand-up comedy by comics who love it.” That’s a direct quote form their website and could not be more accurate. This is not your typical comedy nerd podcast. Jeff and Harrison dive head first into the nuts and bolts of comedy and how some of the top comics in the industry do what they do best, make people laugh.

What we also enjoy about the show is how many of the podcasts are specifically themed based on the guests strengths so the listener knows exactly what they’re getting into. The episode that got us hooked was with Hot Breathren Mark Normand exploring all things writing. We will link that below. Enjoy!

3. Industry Standard with Barry Katz

Hosted by legendary comedy talent manager Barry Katz, this is your go-to podcast for long form interviews (besides Hot Breath! of course) with some of comedy’s most influential players. Barry has helped launch the career of countless comics ranging from i Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook to Wanda Sykes and Bill Burr. Those barely even scratch the surface. Seriously, google him and listen to this podcast. Some of his interviews push well past two hours, so save these for those comedy road trips to help pass the time with lessons from comedy legends.

Fun side note, we actually got to see the live recording of his interview with Howie Mandel while at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. We will paste that episode below as a fun teaser to get you started. Enjoy!
